Syria: Mehad’s Historic Cradle of Action

Syria is the birthplace of Mehad’s commitment. Our NGO was founded by doctors committed to addressing the urgent healthcare needs of populations impacted by civil war.

An Unprecedented Humanitarian Crisis

Since the war’s onset in 2011, Syria has faced one of the most severe humanitarian crises since World War II.

Mehad concentrates its efforts in northeastern and northwestern Syria, where healthcare needs are particularly critical. In collaboration with local partners, our NGO strives to address these urgent needs.

Northeastern Syria: This area, formerly under ISIS control and now managed by the Syrian Democratic Forces, remains fragile due to destroyed infrastructure and limited services. Cities like Raqqa and Deir Ezzor have been particularly impacted by the war’s aftermath.

The closure of cross-border corridors, compounded by Russian vetoes, has complicated humanitarian access. Despite these obstacles, Mehad draws on its expertise to respond to the region’s medical needs.

Mehad is the only organization that has maintained an interrupted presence in Syria since the war began.

Northwestern Syria: This region is marked by both security and humanitarian instability and hosts a significant number of internally displaced people. The worsening economic situation and widespread poverty intensify the crisis.

Mehad works with local independent health directorates to establish healthcare facilities and deliver essential services, ensuring aid reaches all populations without discrimination.
