Our Crisis Response Program in the West Bank

Drawing on our NGO’s extensive experience in conflict zones, Mehad has implemented a crisis intervention program in the West Bank  to meet the urgent health needs of civilians.

Following an initial assessment by two Mehad team members on the ground, the severe conditions in the West Bank compelled us to act.

While much attention is focused on Gaza, the West Bank faces its own underreported humanitarian crisis. Despite having well-trained medical professionals and quality healthcare facilities, access to essential medical care has become severely restricted.

Since the outbreak of the current crisis and the tightening of checkpoints on October 7, 2023, much of the population has been cut off from basic healthcare services.

Our first training mission, conducted in partnership with the Palestinian Ministry of Health, was launched in May 2024 with a focus on emergency ultrasound techniques.

Emergency Ultrasound Training

This training program equips doctors with essential skills in ultrasound diagnostics, focusing on identifying and managing abdominal trauma, especially in patients with gunshot wounds or injuries from shell fragments.

By strengthening local medical capacity, Mehad aims to enhance the immediate and effective care available to those impacted by the conflict.

As part of our ongoing commitment to health system rehabilitation, we plan to implement the following in the second phase:

Mobile Clinics: In partnership with Palestinian health authorities, we aim to deploy mobile clinics in key locations. These units will provide essential follow-up care, particularly for patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes and asthma, who are unable to access regular care due to security challenges.

Intervention in Gaza: Our broader goal is to extend this mission to Gaza, where we plan to provide essential support to the population as soon as conditions and authorities permit.
