Leaving a Legacy

Passing on all or part of your assets to Mehad, during your lifetime or after your death, is a way to ensure that your commitment to supporting victims of conflict and guaranteeing access to healthcare for all continues long into the future. It is also a powerful sign of the trust you place in us: thank you.

Thinking about what will become of the fruits of a lifetime is a deeply personal decision. By choosing to pass on part of your assets to Mehad, you are doing far more than making a donation: you are extending your commitment and creating a lasting connection between your values and the actions carried out in the field.

Through legacies, donations, or life insurance, you help guarantee long-term access to healthcare for populations affected by conflict and humanitarian crises. Your generosity supports healthcare workers, keeps health centers operational, and helps develop essential programs for women, men, and children who need them most.

The impact of your legacy

Passing on your assets to Mehad means turning your commitment into concrete action in the field.

For example:

€30,000 through a legacy
= 1 month of operation for 2 mobile clinics in Lebanon or Syria
= nearly 1,500 patients receiving care

€45,000 through a donation
= prenatal and postnatal medical follow-up for 100 births

€17,500 through life insurance
= full training for 100 local healthcare workers

Every contribution, whatever its form, helps ensure that your commitment to populations affected by conflict and deprived of healthcare continues over time.

Why leave a legacy to Mehad?

Since its creation in 2011 by Franco-Syrian doctors, Mehad has worked to preserve a fundamental right: access to healthcare in conflict zones.

In contexts where healthcare systems are weakened or destroyed, your support helps to:

  • support mobile clinics in areas with limited access to healthcare
  • strengthen the capacities of local healthcare workers
  • maintain essential health facilities
  • provide care for thousands of patients every year

Leaving a legacy to Mehad means making your commitment part of a long-term effort and helping build sustainable humanitarian responses.

A legacy: passing on your assets

A legacy is a testamentary provision that allows you to pass on all or part of your assets to a person or organization such as Mehad.

It only takes effect upon death and can be modified or revoked at any time during your lifetime.

Under French law, your estate is divided into:

  • the reserved portion allocated to your heirs
  • the disposable portion, which you may freely leave to a person or organization of your choice

There are three types of legacy:

  • Universal legacy: transfer of your entire estate (while respecting the rights of reserved heirs)
  • Universal legacy by share: transfer of a percentage of your estate or a category of assets
  • Specific legacy: transfer of a specific asset (property, money, object, etc.)

How can you leave a legacy to Mehad?

To leave a legacy to Mehad, it is necessary to write a will.

This can be:

  • a handwritten will, written by yourself

  • an authenticated will, prepared by a notary

It is recommended to deposit your will with a notary to ensure its safekeeping and registration in the “Fichier Central des Dispositions de Dernières Volontés.”

Your will should mention:

Donations: taking action during your lifetime

A donation allows you to immediately and irrevocably transfer an asset to Mehad during your lifetime.

It must be carried out through a notarized deed and may concern:

  • a sum of money
  • movable or immovable property
  • securities or investments

Several forms exist:

  • Full ownership donation: Mehad immediately becomes the owner of the asset
  • Bare ownership donation: you retain the use of the asset or its income until your death
  • Temporary usufruct donation: Mehad receives the income generated by the asset for a specified period

Life insurance: a simple and flexible way to give

Life insurance allows you to transfer capital to a designated beneficiary outside the estate process.

You simply need to designate Mehad as a beneficiary in the beneficiary clause of your contract.

You may choose to pass on:

  • all or part of the capital
  • or a percentage of the policy

The clause can be modified at any time through your insurance provider.
