Humanitarian crises: why health must be the number one priority

2 March 2025

Famine, war, massive population movements… When a humanitarian crisis breaks out, health becomes the top priority. Find out why rapid, effective medical intervention is crucial in these emergency situations.

The health impact of conflict

In war zones, healthcare systems rapidly collapse. Hospitals destroyed, health workers displaced or killed, access to care hampered: these conditions encourage the spread of diseases such as malaria, cholera or Ebola fever, while exacerbating malnutrition and mental health problems among the population.

At Mehad, we know that the medical response to humanitarian crises is vital in order to limit the dramatic health consequences. In Syria, Yemen and other conflict zones, vulnerable populations, particularly women, children and the elderly, are most at risk.

Rapid, appropriate intervention in war zones

To respond to these emergencies, Mehad is setting up mobile clinics to ensure access to care even in the most isolated areas. These facilities are essential for providing emergency care, limiting the spread of epidemics and treating physical and psychological trauma.

Our trained teams intervene rapidly, distributing medical supplies and training local healthcare workers to boost capacity for action on the ground. This approach guarantees an effective and sustainable humanitarian response.

A global commitment to helping refugees

Mehad also works to raise awareness of preventive health care, improve nutrition and support the mental health of displaced people. In coordination with local and international players, our NGO is committed to providing comprehensive international emergency aid, capable of dealing with the most severe health crises.
