Following the launch of its first course in spring 2026, Mehad is continuing to roll out its emergency ultrasound training programme in Lebanon. Several doctors have already completed the course, and further sessions are planned in various regions of the country over the summer.
Aimed at doctors working in A&E departments and primary care hospitals, this programme aims to enhance their ability to carry out ultrasound scans directly at the patient’s bedside, in order to speed up the diagnosis and management of critical cases.
A comprehensive programme, from training to certification
Each cycle lasts around two weeks and involves between two and four hospitals, with usually three to four doctors taking part from each hospital.
The programme comprises two days of theory-based lessons and practical workshops, followed by around ten days of mentoring directly within hospitals. A final day of assessment then enables participants to obtain their certification.
During the mentoring phase, doctors put the techniques they have learnt into practice with their patients, in their real-world clinical settings. Mehad provides part of this support, whilst the other institutions receive support from MedGlobal’s teams.
This approach enables participants to gradually develop their proficiency in emergency ultrasound and to integrate it into their daily practice on a long-term basis.
Encouraging initial results
The first cycle took place between May and June 2026 at Rafic Hariri University Hospital, Sibline Governmental Hospital and Baabda Governmental Hospital.
Seven doctors completed the entire programme. Following the training, mentoring and final assessment, six of them were awarded their certification.
A second cycle is currently underway at the hospitals in Zahle and Baalbek. Seven new doctors are taking part. Their final assessment and certification are scheduled for the end of July.
These initial courses confirm the value of ongoing support, going beyond classroom-based training days alone, to enable doctors to become more independent and confident in the use of emergency ultrasound.
A programme covering southern and northern Lebanon
Further rounds are planned for August with a view to extending the programme to other parts of the country.
An upcoming session will bring together twelve doctors from four hospitals in southern Lebanon: the Nabih Berri Governmental Hospital and the Al Najdeh Hospital in Nabatiyeh, the Tebnine Hospital and the Turkish Hospital in Saïda.
At the end of the training, Mehad will support the participants at hospitals in Nabatiyeh, whilst MedGlobal will provide mentoring at facilities in Tebnine and Saïda.
Another course is then due to be organised in northern Lebanon, involving doctors working in hospitals in Batroun, Halba and Tripoli.
At a time when Lebanese healthcare facilities are facing severe constraints, emergency ultrasound is an essential tool for helping doctors to quickly assess a patient’s condition and identify situations requiring immediate intervention.
By combining knowledge transfer, supervised practice and certification, Mehad helps to build the long-term capacity of hospital teams and improve emergency care in Lebanon.
