A holistic approach to health
Mehad has always attached particular importance to development over and above its core mission of providing healthcare in areas in a state of emergency, constantly affected by persistent conflicts. With this in mind, we adopt a holistic approach to health, taking into account all aspects of the beneficiaries’ well-being, whether physical, emotional, mental or social.
In this vein, we took part in the international awareness campaign against gender violence. This campaign aims to raise awareness in local communities of the devastating consequences of gender-based violence, while encouraging a change in mentality and the promotion of gender equality.
Raising awareness is crucial to eliminating gender-based violence
In this international fortnight (25 November to 10 December) dedicated to the elimination of gender-based violence, our mission team in north-eastern Syria has taken the initiative of launching a 16-day awareness-raising campaign among beneficiaries and Mehad staff alike, in order to strengthen their skills.
As part of this commitment, Mehad organised awareness-raising sessions for 15 of our health and social workers. These sessions focused on the communication skills and preparation required to run sessions for beneficiaries, and also included information on referring survivors to specialist organisations.
In parallel, sessions were held for beneficiaries, addressing the impact of violence on mental health, as well as the importance of women’s role in society and their empowerment.
Mehad maintains these activities throughout the campaign by organising awareness-raising sessions and continually distributing leaflets with key messages.
Mehad iscommitted to developing
Mehad remains convinced that comprehensive development, whether medical, social or cultural, is essential to building resilient and equitable societies. Our commitment to raising awareness of gender-based violence demonstrates our desire to tackle deep-rooted problems and contribute to positive change in the communities we work with.
