Mehad’s participation in the first sub-national nutrition sector meeting for 2026 in Deir ez-Zor

Mehad participated in the first sub-national nutrition sector meeting for 2026 in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, which was held at the UNICEF office in Deir ez-Zor. The meeting was chaired by Ms Sanabel Al-Qasir, National Nutrition Sector Coordinator, with the participation of the Deir ez-Zor Health Directorate, represented by Dr Nasr, alongside a number of partners working in the nutrition sector.

The meeting focused on reviewing the structure of the nutrition sector and clarifying the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders involved in the response. The findings of the SMART survey for Deir ez-Zor Governorate were also reviewed, highlighting the significant humanitarian and nutritional needs in the region.

The discussions emphasised the importance of strengthening coordination among partners to ensure the continued availability of therapeutic and preventive supplies and to avoid any disruption to services. The need to enhance the competence of healthcare staff through targeted training was also highlighted, alongside the adoption of updated protocols issued by the Syrian Ministry of Health.

The Deir ez-Zor Health Directorate also outlined its key achievements, which are designed to facilitate the work of partners and strengthen coordination mechanisms between the various stakeholders in the nutrition sector.

This meeting represents an important step towards strengthening joint cooperation and improving the quality and continuity of food services for the most vulnerable groups in Deir ez-Zor Governorate.
