Mehad took part in a workshop organised by the Syrian Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, in cooperation with UN Women, on Tuesday 18 November in Damascus. The event brought together representatives of public institutions, local and international organisations such as Mehad, women’s platforms and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), which was present online.
The workshop was part of the process of preparing Syria’s first National Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction. The discussions highlighted the specific risks to which women and girls are exposed in Syria, particularly in the context of displacement, epidemics and natural disasters.
Participants also learned about the methodology that will guide the forthcoming national consultations, aimed at ensuring the active, inclusive and meaningful participation of women and women leaders in the construction of this essential national strategy.

The sessions covered a number of key areas:
- strengthening the role of women in disaster preparedness, response and recovery;
- improving early warning mechanisms ;
- promoting and supporting community initiatives led by women to reduce risks.
Mehad’s presence at this event underlines his commitment not only to supporting women’s leadership, but also to actively protecting women in high-risk contexts and helping to build safer, stronger and more resilient communities in the face of crisis.
