Dr Ibrahim Al Kalamad is a distinguished radiologist from the city of Raqqa, graduated in 1986. Over the course of his career, he has gained extensive experience in the field of radiography through his participation in many training courses in multiple countries such as Italy, America, Lebanon and Syria, where he was trained on the latest equipment such as CT, MRI, Mammography and others.

Since his graduation, Dr Ibrahim worked as a radiologist in the city of Raqqa, where he served for more than 25 years at the National Hospital as head of the radiology department. When MEHAD began supporting the radiology unit at Raqqa National Hospital, Dr Ibrahim joined the MEHAD team four years ago, and continues to provide high quality medical services.

Speaking about one of the biggest challenges he faces in his field, Dr Ibrahim said: “One of the biggest difficulties we face is the lack of awareness about the side effects of radiological imaging. Therefore, we always advise that radiological images should always be part of a medical consultation with a specialist doctor, as unwarranted imaging can cause health damage.”

As for his experience in humanitarian work, Dr Ibrahim stresses the importance of this work to him, saying: “Despite the great difficulties and fears of arrest that we faced while travelling to regime areas in the past, I never thought of retreating. Because humanitarian work was of great importance in my life, and I felt that helping people in those circumstances was worth all the sacrifices.”

He added: “MEHAD is interested in providing medical services of the highest possible quality, with specialised and well-trained medical staff. I believe that qualified medical staff are the key to the success of the medical service we provide.”

In terms of available medical services, Dr Ibrahim believes that CT scanning is one of the most important services that saves a lot of effort, time and money for patients, as it contributes to obtaining an accurate and quick diagnosis.

“This service has saved many patients a lot of time in obtaining an accurate result, which makes it easier for us to deal with their health conditions more efficiently.”

On the cases he is most affected by, Dr Ibrahim said: “Cancer patients are the group that I deal with the most meticulously and with great care, and every case that passes through my hands leaves an impact on me. I always feel that I have to give them the best that I can.”
At the end of the interview, Dr Ibrahim gave advice to his fellow doctors, saying: “I always advise my colleagues to give their best in every medical service they provide, and to always be at the service of patients with full attention and dedication. It is the patient’s right to receive the highest level of care and medical service.”
