Mehad conducts a training course on thalassaemia care in Raqqa.

MEHAD implemented a specialised training course entitled “Health Care for Thalassaemia Patients” at its training centre in Raqqa. The course targeted the staff of the organisation’s Thalassaemia Treatment Centre, which consists of psychological support team, nurses and a specialised doctor.
The course lasted for five consecutive days, during which a set of theoretical lectures and practical exercises were provided online, in cooperation with trained doctors from the Arab Republic of Egypt with extensive experience in this field.
The training included the diagnosis of thalassaemia in all its stages and types, blood transfusions from blood collection to transfusion, with a focus on potential complications and side effects during blood transfusions and how to manage them efficiently and quickly. The most serious complication of thalassaemia, iron accumulation in the body, and how to monitor and treat it.
The course also included training on psychological support for thalassaemia patients and their families, reviewing the most important psychological challenges faced by patients and ways to provide them with appropriate support to mitigate the psychological effects of the disease and improve their daily lives.
Through these trainings, MEHAD seeks to enhance the capabilities of its medical and psychological staff in order to improve the quality of health services provided to thalassaemia patients, and to raise awareness among the community about the importance of early diagnosis and continuous care for this category of patients.
