In Syria, Mehad’s health team led a major initiative to raise awareness of breast cancer screening, as part of the Pink October campaign.
Large-scale mobilisation
A total of 764 sessions were organised in the localities of Al-Karama, Al-Sousa, Al-Hreijiya and Abu Hammam, as well as at the Deir Ezzor clinic and the two mobile clinics in Aleppo. These sessions covered the definition of breast cancer, its symptoms, the groups most at risk, as well as the steps involved in breast self-examination and the warning signs requiring urgent medical consultation.

Preventing, informing and guiding women towards early detection
The activities took the form of group discussions, educational presentations andone-to-one interviews, enabling participants to learn the right things to do in a confidential setting. A total of 2,706 women took part in these sessions, and 2,513 illustrated brochures were distributed to encourage early detection and prevention.
At Mehad, we believe that every act of prevention is another step towards a future where breast cancer is no longer a fatality.
