Faced with the rapid spread of scabies and lice in Syrian schools, Mehad has launched an emergency response campaign in the rural region of Aleppo. This initiative was set up in collaboration with the local health and education departments, with the aim of controlling the spread of these infections among pupils, particularly in the worst-hit schools.

Rapid response to the spread of infections
The campaign was launched following worrying reports of a sharp increase in cases in several rural schools in the Aleppo governorate. In just a few days, more than 1,000 cases were recorded, highlighting the speed with which these infections spread in school environments. Faced with this situation, Mehad deployed its community health team to intervene directly in the affected schools and provide immediate medical care. These sessions cover how scabies and head lice are transmitted, how to take precautionary measures, and are based on the distribution of teaching aids: illustrated brochures, information posters and simple, accessible prevention messages.
Reinforcing prevention and limiting the risk of new epidemics
Through this initiative, Mehad is reaffirming its commitment to responding to urgent health needs, particularly those affecting children and their educational environments. It also calls for ongoing coordination with health and education authorities to ensure that all affected schools are reached and that the spread of these infectious skin diseases is brought under control.
