Extreme cold emergency in Syria

7 January 2026

As in France, snow has fallen in abundance in northern Syria… but the consequences are dramatically different. Violent snowstorms hit the refugee camps in theIdleb, Aleppo and Al-Hasakeh regions, affecting 90 camps and 158,000 displaced people.

In Raqqa and Al-Hasakeh, many families are without heating due to a lack of fuel supplies. Tents and shelters have been destroyed, leaving people exposed tohypothermia and respiratory distress. Sadly, two babies have already died as a result of the cold.

The situation has been exacerbated by renewed tensions in Aleppo, further complicating access to humanitarian aid.

In the face of this emergency, every gesture counts to help the most vulnerable Syrian populations.
