A conflict broke out in Aleppo on Tuesday 6 January 2026 between pro-Kurdish forces (Syrian Democratic Forces) and government forces. Mehad is doing all he can to help the displaced people who have fled the fighting.

At least five civilians have been killed and dozens wounded since the fighting began. According to the latest figures, the fighting has already displaced almost 60,000 people, most of them fleeing to Afrin.
“Initial fighting near the Alleramoon roundabout on the western outskirts of Aleppo spread to the predominantly Kurdish neighbourhoods of Ash-Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh, with shelling also affecting surrounding government-controlled areas,” the UN said. “Several health facilities were affected, including the Zahi Azarak Hospital, the Ibn Rished Hospital and the Othman Hospital, some of which have apparently ceased operations due to the damage and attacks. Traffic restrictions have been imposed on the main roads.
While the fighting continues, an initial meeting was held on Thursday 8 January between the various humanitarian and health players, to organise the best possible health response to this crisis.
Mobile clinic and essential medicines
Mehad’s team, both in Syria and from Paris, are hard at work developing our emergency response plan to provide services to displaced people in Afrin. The team in Aleppo, which itself had to flee the fighting, is in the process of relocating our mobile clinics from the Aleppo region to help these displaced people. The team is also working with the Aleppo Department of Health to address the shortage of essential medicines.
