Khulud is one of hundreds of patients suffering from thalassaemia, a genetic blood disorder that requires regular blood transfusions and specialised medications to keep their health stable.
Kholoud says: “I visit the centre every month for blood transfusions. After each session, I feel much better and regain my energy,” she says.
Her mother adds: “This centre is a real lifeline for Khulood and many other patients. Without its excellent and free services, we wouldn’t know how to cope with the disease.”
The centre provides basic medical services, including blood transfusions, medication, and regular health monitoring. However, the centre also provides psychological support to patients and their families through individual and group sessions that help them cope with the day-to-day challenges of the disease.
One of the centre’s psychological support workers explains: “We don’t limit ourselves to physical treatment, we also make sure to support patients psychologically.
“Thalassaemia is a chronic disease, and psychological support is a key pillar in improving their quality of life.
