At the beginning of September, Mehad Germany brought together a group of doctors and nurses from the Syrian diaspora in Berlin. The aim was to prepare them in turn to train their colleagues in Syria in essential medical fields such as emergency medicine, dialysis, resuscitation, neurosurgery and anaesthesia.

Essential training in a crisis environment
One of the workshops was led by Pierre Catoire, an emergency doctor and medical coordinator at Mehad, who has already led several emergency ultrasound training courses (Ukraine, West Bank, Yemen) as well as various exploratory missions in the field.
Drawing on this experience, he introduced participants to the basic principles of andragogy – or how to effectively pass on medical knowledge to adults, particularly in crisis situations.

A concrete step towards strengthening Syria’s healthcare system
This training marks the start of a wider project, run in partnership with GIZ (the German international cooperation agency), which aims to strengthen local skills and contribute to the long-term reconstruction of the Syrian healthcare system.
