On the morning of Tuesday 30 July, new strikes targeted the city of Kiev, in several districts of the capital. The attacks, which are now almost a daily occurrence, have caused extensive damage in residential areas and near civilian infrastructures.
The hospital where the Mehad-supported rehabilitation centre for the war-wounded is located was not hit, but the explosions took place just a few metres away. All the patients and medical staff were taken to safety.
Against a backdrop of prolonged war, the Mehad teams are continuing their work with the wounded, providing medical care, physical rehabilitation and psychological support. Despite the ongoing insecurity, they remain mobilised to maintain access to essential care.
But working conditions have an impact. The mental health of carers is severely tested. To support them, Mehad has set up regular psychological monitoring. Every month, individual and group sessions help to prevent burnout, chronic stress and trauma-related disorders.
Mehad reiterates that attacks on health facilities, whether directly targeted or located nearby, constitute a violation of international humanitarian law. The organisation reiterates its commitment to working alongside the people affected by the war in Ukraine.
