In war zones, healthcare professionals face extreme challenges. Mehad is committed to supporting them by providing essential resources, training and logistical support so that they can continue their medical mission despite the precarious conditions.

The countries in which Mehad operates are affected by conflicts and humanitarian crises, which often lead to a severe shortage of qualified healthcare professionals. This is why the organisation works tirelessly to strengthen the healthcare systems in these countries by providing specialised training to improve the quality of care.
In collaboration with international and local experts, Mehad offers specific medical training adapted to crisis situations. These courses include the management of war injuries, post-traumatic care and the management of chronic illnesses in extreme conditions.

Humanitarian medicine in Syria and elsewhere

In Syria, after fourteen years of conflict, medical staff have often paid a heavy price for the war. Today, they have to cope with shortages of equipment, destroyed infrastructures and ever-increasing medical needs. Through its work, Mehad is strengthening their ability to provide effective care by offering them appropriate resources.

Since 2013, Mehad has been providing training in Syria tailored to the needs of healthcare professionals working in a precarious and volatile environment, particularly in the management of war injuries and emergency care. Mehad is also developing training courses via its mobile clinics, enabling healthcare professionals to acquire skills directly in the field, particularly in areas where medical infrastructure is limited.

Training medical staff in Ukraine

The experience gained in Syria naturally led Mehad to intervene in Ukraine, where it also offers training to healthcare staff. Mehad has developed a medical training project that has been considerably strengthened since 2023. The organisation has opened training centres in Lviv and Kharkiv, as well as in more exposed areas such as Odessa, Poltava and Sumy, thanks to our mobile teams.

Caregivers are trained in essential techniques such as damage control surgery, fast ultrasound, psycho-trauma management and medical evacuation management. These training courses are designed to be sustainable, and include training for the trainers so that they can pass on their knowledge to their colleagues. By 2024, 4,817 care workers had been trained in Ukraine.

Mehad also offers its expertise in humanitarian medicine in other crisis regions, such as the West Bank, where an emergency ultrasound training course in 2024 trained 120 healthcare professionals, and which will be repeated in the summer of 2024, or in Yemen, with several training sessions for the staff of the hospital managed by our organisation. Mehad is the embodiment of the commitment of a medical NGO that places support for healthcare professionals at the heart of its work, enabling them to continue to carry out their vital mission in the most unstable environments.
