On 16 and 17 October, Mehad, the Union of Syrian Doctors and Pharmacists in France (UMPSF) and SOS Syria co-organised the Syrian-French Medical Congress in Deir ez-Zor. The event, which brought together more than 850 doctors and specialists for some 160 scientific papers and lectures, aimed to promote the sharing of knowledge, the transfer of expertise and cooperation between healthcare professionals in Syria and those in the diaspora.
On this occasion, Dr Ziad Al-Issa, President of Mehad, spoke on several occasions at specialist scientific conferences. Other members of the Mehad Syria team also took part in the congress, thereby contributing to the exchange of knowledge and medical practices. Following on from the congress, medical and surgical missions were organised in Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa and Hassakeh, combining consultations, practical workshops and discussions on clinical cases across several medical specialities.
A follow-up mission is currently underway in north-eastern Syria, with the aim of building on this momentum of cooperation and fulfilling a shared ambition: to strengthen the skills of healthcare workers and make a lasting contribution to the reconstruction of the Syrian healthcare system.
