27 December 2024

As part of its efforts to enhance the skills of local medical teams, Mehad organised a training course for nursing staff at the Lawdar hospital in Yemen. From 10 to 12 December 2024, eight nurses took part in an intensive programme focusing on the management of major emergencies. The aim of this initiative was to improve their skills in dealing with medical emergencies.

Training tailored to local needs

During this course, participants acquire key skills for managing critical situations encountered in their day-to-day practice.

The eight participants were trained in essential resuscitation techniques, clinical assessment of emergencies, and procedures for triaging and managing patients suffering from trauma or respiratory distress.

The nurses were able to expand their knowledge on vital subjects such as :

  • Clinical assessment in emergencies (ABCDE): a systematic method for examining and treating patients in critical condition.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for adults, children and infants, with practical workshops.
  • Choking management, an essential module for dealing with this common emergency situation.
  • Triage, an essential skill for prioritising care according to the seriousness of the case.

Supporting carers to meet the challenges of conflict zones

The aim of the training was not only to enhance the skills of hospital staff in emergency situations, but also to raise awareness of the importance of early detection of priorities and immediate intervention. Participants were able to test their new knowledge through simulated scenarios, representing real cases encountered in the hospital environment.

For several years, Mehad has been working to support healthcare systems in regions affected by conflict. Through appropriate training and local initiatives, the NGO helps medical teams to respond better to the urgent needs of patients, while gradually strengthening the capacity of healthcare structures to meet the challenges of these difficult contexts.

The training course organised in Aden is part of a series of initiatives undertaken by Mehad to facilitate access to healthcare and provide support to the most vulnerable populations.
