NORTH-EAST SYRIA
During the month of October, Mehad celebrated the Global Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, which ran until the end of the month.
The celebration included a variety of activities and events carried out by community health teams at the Mehad Primary Health Care Centres in the towns of Al Sousa, Abu Hamam, Harijiya and Al Karama.
The celebration included awareness sessions on breast cancer, where women and girls were taught the steps of self-examination and the importance of this examination in the early detection of the disease, which contributes to the recovery of 95% of cases, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) statistics.
It also highlighted the danger signs that require a visit to a women’s clinic and seeking medical help to confirm or deny breast cancer, allowing the opportunity for treatment before it is too late.
The event also included distributing brochures and showing educational videos about breast cancer and ways to prevent it, in addition to the stages of self-examination, which represents a message of hope for all women and girls, especially those who are infected or at risk of developing the disease.
It is worth mentioning that Mehad’s primary healthcare centres in northern and eastern Syria witnessed a large turnout during October, with many women and girls coming forward for breast cancer screenings, after attending awareness sessions provided by community health teams inside the health centres or during visits.
